I think your comment was good considering the time and situation. I couldn't think of anything better to say and you dealt with the situation very well. I am also dealing with a student who I know is smart but says he hates school and doesn't want to do his work. I can't use my motivation to increase his and so I understand the battle you are facing. Good luck, just keep working with him and having a positive attitude about it and hopefully he will catch on.

Sounds like you had an interesting week. At least you got to work with some of the students though, which is a nice change of pace when looking at all of the "busy work" you are doing for Mrs. Way. It's also great that you are able to catch them up and explain the concepts to them...that's the problem in a big classroom, sometimes you just can't "wait around" for everyone to understand one concept. This is very frustrating for the teachers, and especially the students, at least from what you are saying and I've experienced.
When it comes to focusing the students, that is a tough call on many levels. Obviously you are doing fine because no one has said otherwise, but you are right with the "always room for improvement" because that's a fact of teaching in general. I wish I could help you in this area, but those are the same tactics I would say...so yea, sorry. Maybe bring this up and ask the class?

Hope you have a great week this week and sorry it's a bit late!!!

Good to hear you are enjoying Mrs. Way's classroom with the little time you have spent there. I totally agree that her classroom is one of madness in the form of organized chaos. When I was in there I also had trouble adjusting to the classroom because of the lack of order but after awhile I got used to it and was able to see how she ran her classroom. I myself could never keep that up but it was something nice to see and experience. Hope you have some time this coming week to interact with the class and get to know them more. My advice to you from experience in that classroom is keep your patience and just do your thing and the students will follow even though they appear to be out in their own little world. Have fun!

I'm glad you had a great first week of field. I remember observing Mr. Larousse for the phonics class freshman year and he seemed like such a great teacher! How do you like the team-teaching with Danielle? I think that would be fun! It sounds like you had a difficult time with "Josh" but I'm glad he finally understood the math. Sometimes I think it just takes students a while to warm up to the adults they are working with, if they have never worked with them before! Hopefully he will continue to work well with you and respect you. Have a great second week at Melrose!
